Vaskiluodon Voima Oy – heat and energy to homes
Vaskiluodon Voima is a company jointly owned in equal shares by EPV Energy Ltd and Pohjolan Voima Oy. Our power plants, located in Vaasa and Seinäjoki, produce electricity and district heat. The district heat is utilised by the cities of Vaasa and Seinäjoki. We supply our shareholders with electricity and heat at cost price according to the Mankala principle.

Great efficiency with less fuel
Both of the Vaskiluodon Voima power plants produce electricity and district heat in a combined heat and power (CHP) generation process, which uses less fuel and makes the plants highly efficient.

Plants that generate only electricity create waste heat as a by-product, but with combined heat and power it can be directed to the heating network for the region’s homes. The district heat produced by the Vaasa power plant covers more than 60 per cent of the demand in Vaasa, and the Seinäjoki power plant meets over 90 per cent of the demand in Seinäjoki.

Local energy from mires and forests
The efficiency of Vaskiluodon Voima’s power plants is extremely high due to combined heat and power generation. We use biofuels and coal as fuel. We have also adopted globally innovative technologies that allow it to replace coal with biomass.

The domestic fuels used by Vaskiluodon Voima are procured from the Ostrobothnia and South Ostrobothnia regions, within a radius of about 100 kilometres from the plants. We use several fuel suppliers to ensure large enough deliveries and transport routes that are as short as possible.
